Breaking and Entering
July 10, 2002

My mommy always told me not to gamble, since you can also lose. I should've heeded her advice. The thing is, I just lost an awfully big sum of money to Berkson, and if I can't pay him by tomorrow his boys will break every bone in me. Not very fair, especially since I'm just a lousy, small-time merchant - there's simply no way I can scrap the amount of money Berkson wants. So we struck a deal - I steal him something and he lets me go. I don't like it, but at least I'll live.

Deacon is not a bad man. He has just, should I say, unhealthy obsessions with the Old Gods. I guess that's why they kicked him out of the Hammerite Order. He's still a believer, but he has more... wide view of beliefs. At any rate, Deacon has this old gear from his hammerite days - now taken as the holy symbol by these new "mechanists" - it's made out of bronze and apparently has more than just sentimental value. Berkson knows a buyer and I have to make sure he's not going to be disappointed.

The gear should be in Deacon's house, which also doubles as his workshop. The thing is, no one has seen him enter or leave the place for a week now; either he's on a vacation or the Hammers got finally fed up with him and gave him a new apartment in Cragscleft. At any rate, the lock I've spied on Deacon's front door should be easy to break open, but I hope he hasn't locked most of his house, too - I don't have lockpicks of any sort, much less weaponry. I'd rather not pull this heist for Berkson, but it's not like I have a choice. I'd just better be careful or I'm the one settling down to Cragscleft.

Note: This is a mission to the third small FM contest.
