IMPORTANT
- The mission uses about 80% stock textures and 20% custom ones. The latter include low-res Thief 1 textures and some reimported Thief 2 ones. Thus, using any kind of texture pack will likely lead to strange results. Please, play the mission with vanilla looks.
- NewDark 1.24 or higher is required to run the mission.
- Make sure that new mantle is enabled. There are no rope arrows, but there is still plenty of climbing in the mission. Remember that you can climb objects and ledges that are pretty high. Without new mantle, the mission is probably unwinnable.
- The mission uses new footstep sounds for metal pipes to make landing and walking along them unlikely to alert AIs.

STORY (this mission is part 1 of what will later become a campaign)
Seems like the business has hit a low point again. I haven’t had many jobs lately, and only a few of them ended up being lucrative. Naturally, I’d take any chance to earn some quick cash these days.
An old contact of mine, Paolo, has offered me a job. Paolo owns an inn in Wayside, which he uses as a front for some shady business. He didn’t give me any details, just told me to meet him at the usual place: the inn’s cellar.
I arrived during normal hours, but none of the visitors seemed to mind me. The first thing that was different from all my previous meetings with Paolo was that the cellar door was locked, with a note hanging nearby, “No entry. Not even for the bar staff.” It seemed like he really didn’t want any disturbance. Picking the lock was easy enough, but after I went down the stairs, Paolo wasn’t there. Moreover, there was something strange about the cellar. Through the thick darkness, it seemed that the walls were almost moving. A note was lying in a spotlight, “Meeting is off.”
An uneasy feeling came over me. I felt as if I was being set up. With my sword ready, I slowly went back up the staircase, which also seemed to have transformed somehow. However, the bar looked unchanged.
Might be just my mind playing tricks on me, but I don’t like this situation one bit. I better get back to my hideout as soon as possible.

WICHTIG
- Diese FM nutzt zu 80% allgemeine und zu 20% eigene Texturen. Diese umfassen sowohl niedrig aufgelöste Thief1- als auch überarbeitete Thief2-Texturen. Daher dürfte die Nutzung von neueren Texturerweiterungen seltsam wirken, spielt die FM also bitte nur mit den Originaltexturen.
- Es wird NewDark 1.24 oder höher vorausgesetzt.
- NewMantle muß aktiviert sein. Zwar gibt es keine Seilpfeile, aber reichlich Gelegenheiten zum Klettern. Dazu gehören auch etliche Objekte und hochliegende Vorsprünge. Ohne NewMantle ist die FM schwerlich lösbar.
- In der FM sind neue Schrittgeräusche auf Metallrohren zu hören, die KIs eher nicht alarmieren.

HANDLUNG (diese Mission ist Teil 1 einer späteren FM-Kampagne)
Meine Geschäfte haben einen Tiefpunkt erreicht. Es gibt kaum etwas zu tun und selbst das ist wenig lukrativ. Klar, daß ich jede noch so vage Möglichkeit für schnelles Geld wahrnehme.
Mein alter Mittelsmann Paolo bot mir einen Job an. Ihm gehört ein Gasthaus in Wayside, welches ihm als Fassade für dunkle Geschäfte dient. Noch hat er keine Einzelheiten verlauten lassen, ich soll ihn nur am gewohnten Ort treffen, und das ist stets der Keller seines Gasthauses.
Ich kam zu normaler Zeit an, aber niemand der Gäste schien mich bemerkt zu haben. Zunächst war ungewöhnlich, daß die Kellertür verschlossen und ein Zettel mit der Aufschrift "Kein Zugang, auch nicht für Beschäftigte" neben ihr angebracht war. Offenbar wollte Paolo jede Störung ausschließen. Es war keine große Sache, das Schloß zu öffnen, doch als ich die Treppen hinunterstieg, war von ihm keine Spur zu sehen. Überhaupt mutete alles eigenartig an, in der Düsternis schienen sich die Wände zu bewegen. In einem Lichtkegel lag die Mitteilung "Das Treffen ist abgesagt".
Mich beschlich ein unangenehmes Gefühl, als hätte man mich reingelegt. Das Schwert fest im Griff, bewegte ich mich langsam zurück in Richtung Treppe, die ebenfalls irgendwie verändert wirkte. Immerhin, die Tresen sahen noch gleich aus. Vielleicht spielte mir meine Einbildung einen Streich, doch darauf kann ich gerne verzichten. Am besten verschwinde ich wieder in Richtung meines Verstecks.

HISTOIRE (cette mission est la première de ce que sera une campagne)
Il semble que les affaires soient revenues à un point bas. Je n’ai pas beaucoup de boulots dernièrement, et seulement quelques uns furent lucratifs. Évidemment, je saisirai toute chance de gagner un peu de fric.
Un ancien contact, Paolo, m’a proposé un travail. Paolo est propriétaire d’une auberge à Wayside, qu’il utilise comme couverture pour des affaires douteuses. Il ne m’a pas donné de détails, mais m’a demandé de le rencontrer à l’endroit habituel: la cave de l’auberge.
Je suis arrivé à des heures normales, mais aucun des visiteurs ne semblaient dérangés de ma présence. La première chose différente de mes autres rencontres avec Paolo c’était que la porte de la cave était barrée, avec une note disant, “Défendu d’entrer. Incluant pour le personnel du bar.” Il semblait qu’il ne voulait vraiment pas qu’on nous dérange. Crocheter la serrure fut facile, mais après que j’aie descendu, Paolo n’y était pas. En outre, la cave avait quelque chose d’étrange. À travers les ténèbres, il semblait que les murs bougeaient. Une note gisait dans la pénombre, “Le rendez-vous est annulé.”
Une inquiétude me saisit. Je me sentait piégé. Mon épée sortie, je remontai lentement l’escalier, qui semblait aussi été transformé. Cependant, le bar sembla inchangé.
Cela ne pourrait qu’être mon imagination, mais je n’aime pas cette situation du tout. Je ferai bien de retourner à mon refuge le plus tôt possible.

STORIA (questa missione ? la prima parte di una futura campagna)
Sembra che gli affari siano ancora in ribasso. Ultimamente non ho avuto molti incarichi, e solo pochi di questi si son rivelati fruttuosi. Naturalmente, ora come ora prenderei qualsiasi lavoro pur di fare qualche soldo.
Un mio vecchio contatto, Paolo, mi ha offerto un incarico. Paolo possiede una taverna a Wayside, la utilizza come copertura per affari loschi. Non mi ha dato alcun dettaglio, mi ha solo detto di incontrarlo nel solito posto: la cantina della taverna.
Una volta arrivato nessuno dei clienti ? parso accorgersi di me. A differenza dei miei precedenti incontri con Paolo ho notato come la porta della cantina fosse chiusa a chiave, con una nota appesa, “Nessuno entri. Nemmeno il personale del bar.” Sembra non volesse alcun disturbo. Forzare la serratura ? stato semplice, ma dopo aver sceso le scale, Paolo non si trovava l?. Inoltre, c'era qualcosa di strano in cantina. Attraverso la profonda oscurit?, sembrava quasi che i muri si stessero muovendo. Una nota era leggermente visibile, “L'incontro ? annullato.”
Avvertii una strana sensazione. Mi son sentito come incastrato. Con la spada pronta, ho lentamente risalito le scale, che in qualche modo eran sembrate trasformate. Comunque, il bar pareva normale.
Forse ? stata solo immaginazione, ma la situazione non mi piace per niente. Meglio tornare al pi? presto al mio nascondiglio.
